How Children are Screened and Evaluated

Children are evaluated based on an Early Steps evaluation that determines the child's specific developmental and behavioral needs (Community Outreach, n.d.). Child and family specific needs are a guide to setup services based on the family's concerns, resources, and goals they want to accomplish. The goal is to empower the family through a comprehensive team of professionals with fewer appointment times and more family time (Florida's Early Step System, 2012).

Necessity of Early Intervention

Birth to three years is the most vital time in a child's learning. Early identification of problems enables the ability to find help and start a child on the right path. Early intervention helps a child learn and develop at their full potential. It enables families and care givers to gain competence and confidence they can use at home to help the child in better ways. Most intervention services are home based where the child learns in his/her own living environment.
