¶ … colleagues have pointed out, the most important feature of a research design becomes the question of internal validity and external validity. How can the researchers best design a study to test the hypothesis, while also maintaining internal and external validity? And given there are no perfectly designed experiments or research designs, which features are easiest to sacrifice? The issues that can be sacrificed depend on the nature of the study. In this case, the authors are interested not necessarily in the end result of reducing STDs as much as increasing usage of the female condom. The research ends up simply showing what pedagogical or intervention methods are most effective at increasing female condom use in a specific community, and have little bearing otherwise. Share an insight from having read your colleague's posting.

One colleague stated, "The author should have used a facility where less than 25% of women have used a female condom. This could have given him a better idea if the sessions really worked." This is something I had not considered when reading the Choi et al. (2008) research. A more meaningful study would have applied to a population in need, which would have been one that required more targeted interventions. Moreover,...

In the Choi et al. (2008) study, the researchers acquired informed consent and therefore obliged with the ethical guidelines of the research. A baseline questionnaire was then used and was self-administered using a computer. Furthermore, a $10 cash incentive was used. Whether or not this is ethical is a problem. As Seddon (2005) points out, paying participants to take part in research can be problematic from several different ethical perspectives. Justice, human rights, and business ethics are all potential areas of concern. In the Choi et al. (2008) study, the financial incentive is not a serious issue, but it deserves to be mentioned.
Validate an idea with your own experience.

In my experience, designing research is extraordinarily difficult. An effective research design comes from experience. However, it is important to boil it down to the essence of the hypothesis. When the researchers understand what exactly the purpose of the study is, then the most effective design can emerge. In this case, the most effective design was to…

RESPONSE Response: Discussion TopicAddisalem T.My colleague indicates that the older population faces a wide range of challenges that are often not well addressed. These are inclusive of, but they are not limited to marginalization from their families and battle with various chronic illnesses. For this reason, there is need to ensure that various stakeholders are involved in efforts to promote older persons quality of life. Key stakeholders on this front

It must be noted though that good communication in selling should be done with all honesty. Never tell your customers with anything about your product that is not true. Remember that satisfied customers always come back. Moreover, there is a saying that "the customers are always right." Although this is not true, it is still important that you speak to your customers with respect. Even if you believe that they

Although ultimately nursing is about patient care, theory is ultimately what guides best practices, ensures consistency of care across multiple modalities, and also informs how nurses view themselves, their colleagues, and their role in healthcare. Nursing theory might seem like an abstract issue, but throughout the history of the profession, nurses have consistently demonstrated the importance of clarifying their theoretical perspectives and nursing philosophies. Nursing theory is important to the

Nursing Communication Communication between nurses is an important instrument for professionals to deliver safe, quality healthcare as a team. Therefore, provision of quality healthcare in hospitals, depends entirely on the capability of the health practitioners to communicate efficiently between each other. However, little healthcare education addresses inter-professional communication, and this may account for the major medical errors. In addition, communication is significant given the interdependence of professionals and the important role

represented briefly in the narrative my colleague presented -- that explains how young people become delinquent. Boys from disadvantaged and dysfunctional families, in particular, the research shows, are apt to join up with gangs because in the absence of a father in the home they are looking for masculine role models. Children (boys and girls) that were abused and lived in an environment of violence are most apt to

PEER FEEDBACK Response to Jacqueline R.My colleagues first question is on effective advocacy options for supporting equitable healthcare among marginalized populations. According to Farrer et al. (2015), social mobilization focused on empowerment is an effective advocacy option when dealing with underserved populations. This could involve educating locals through newspaper articles, local town hall sessions, rallies, and press conferences on issues impacting them. Further, nurses could take part in letter-writing campaigns
