This is because with the union I would be protected from the overbearing coaches who take advantage of the fact that we are on scholarships and hence control our lives in school including our class time. Secondly I would join because if I am in the union then it would be easy to push for fewer hours of practice and hence spend more time in class and eventually graduate from college .this will enable me to go ahead with my academic career since it will not be affected in any way with my athletics. Within the union we can also be bale to bargain for better healthcare for us athletes which is something we have always fought for.
