¶ … mind of libraries, professors and academically challenging atmospheres pop to their minds. But the truth is, most learning within the college environment occurs outside of the classroom and library. College is much more about personal growth than about educational growth, because one is thrust into an environment where everyone is willing to share ideas and dreams. In the below speech I want to talk about how college opens one's minds and challenges us to pursue our greatest dreams and ambitions.

Liousa May Alcott once said, Life is my college. "May I graduate well, and earn some honors!" This quote exemplifies the college spirit. The reason that college is so important is that it is an environment that nurtures greater thinking. When individuals share dreams and desires, it broadens our scope of what is possible and one can accomplish. In college, one meets such a diversity of people that there is a definite sharing of ideas. As a result, one will notice that college becomes a constant forum of ideas that makes it so that we rethink our basic value systems and ways of life. It is a combination of all of these aspects that makes college the most mind opening experience of one's lifetime.

Two years ago, the oldest man to ever graduate college finally received his degree when he turned 84 years old. In his keynote speech on graduation day, he said that the greatest gift that God gave to man is the ability to learn. College is the embodiment of that learning process. Another man key why college isn't for wimps is that it fosters a life long desire to learn and grow as an individual. The college environment forces us to look at many different arenas of thought and exposes us to different themes across different disciplines.

Ultimately the purpose is that college teaches us a system for how to analyze the world, and this system promotes a constantly inquiring mind that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Individuals who successfully complete college will have more than the technical degree that he or she earned, but a mind that seeks new challenges and new solutions to problems. It is the fact that college builds us into a flexible machine that will inevitably push us to greater success in the future.

The final reason that everyone should go to college is that it creates greater work opportunities for the future. It has been statistically proven that those individuals who do not go to college will be severely limited in their selection of future positions. The reason is that college opens doors to future opportunities that we are not aware of at the outset. Therefore armed with a college degree we have a lot more options that ever before. Not only does this mean that we will engage in jobs that we actually have a passion for, but that our earning potential is significantly higher. College furthermore is a stepping stone to greater education, either though another degree program or through special training. Therefore, college becomes the gateway to an entire world of learning. Without the necessary education, one cannot progress in life, in order to constantly improve ourselves and our situation, we must continue to grow through education. It is a combination of all of these factors that makes college a worthy investment.
