¶ … Color is Your Parachute? A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers (2014 Edition) by Richard N. Bolles Ours is largely an uncertain job market. People are fast loosing jobs; which essentially means that finding a job is likely to become harder going forward. The relevance of tested tips on how to survive the challenging job market cannot, therefore, be overstated. This book disseminates to job seekers practical skills on how to find their place in a highly uncertain job market.
It is essentially a how-to book for those who derive a living out of serving in their diverse careers. It is important to note, from the onset, that for many of those seeking to change careers or find a new job, the job market has never been more challenging. This particular text equips today's job seeker with sufficient and invaluable tips on how to prepare for interviews, network, and construct winning resumes.
It is a book that would come in handy for a whole lot of people, from those hunting for new jobs to those interested in discovering their unique abilities to those contemplating switching to other careers. Thanks to this amazing text, I was also able to not only identify but also define my mission in life.
It helped me uncover talents I never thought I had in the first place. The fact the author undertakes to review the book on a yearly basis is also welcome. This is particularly the case given that the job market is largely dynamic and experiences change -- just as is the case with many aspects of our daily lives. In that regard, therefore, job seekers and just anybody else seeking to change careers ought to update their job search strategies.
The 2014 edition is better then earlier versions as it contains updated tips -- most particularly on how to make use of the social media to stay afloat in today's dynamic job market. In addition to being one of the best-selling non-fiction books during the last two decades (in various versions), the book could also easily be one of the most translated job-hunting texts -- having been translated to 12 different languages.
Time, an influential news and opinion resource gave the book a thumbs up, labeling it "[one of] the 100 best and most influential [nonfiction books] written in English since 1923, the beginning of TIME…" (Bolles, 2013). The book's.
