Cultural Diversity and Communication
When communication occurs between individuals from different cultures, there is potential for misunderstanding and conflict. This is because cultural values, norms and expectations can vary widely, leading to miscommunication and misinterpretation. One way to overcome these challenges is to ensure that communication is clear and concise. This can be achieved by using simple language and avoiding jargon. Additionally, it is important to be aware of potentially sensitive topics, such as religion or politics, which could cause offence. By understanding and respecting the cultural values of others, it is possible to avoid misunderstandings and build positive relationships through speaking (Sharifi et al., 2019).
In any communication, there is the potential for cultural values to be a barrier (Lim et al., 2018). This is particularly true in diverse settings, where people from different backgrounds may have different values and beliefs. Values and beliefs are the ecosystem of any society, and people can have different ones depending on their social group. This is evident in everything from sports groups to religious affiliation or political allegiance. Even among superheroes there is diversity of values and beliefs, as can be seen from superheroes like Black Panther to Aquaman to Dr. Strange—everyone is different and has a different place of experience (Nakong & Akarachantachote, 2021).
