Community Health
Shortage of family practice physicians should be a worrying trend if America is to achieve its goal of ensuring that it has a surplus of 139, 531 family physicians in the medical practice in 2020 (Lloyd, 2009). Matters are complicated by the fact that not so many students are enrolling for such programs. America attracts only half of the number of future family physicians that it needs. The situation is also worrying factoring in the scope of a family physician practice that entails provision of personal, comprehensive, and continuing care for individuals in context of the family and the community (Halsey, 2009).
As a CEO of a community hospital I would consider paying family practice physicians within my facility to enable them pay their student loans. I would also consider hiring family practice physicians from other countries who have been equipped with standard training from countries where they have come from.
Q2. Mission statements of community health centers slightly differ from those of hospital or clinic medical facility. Their main mission is to improve health care access and eliminate health disparities within the community by providing quality, comprehensive, culturally proficient, primary and preventative health care services with respect and dignity, regardless of a patient's socio-economic background. Their missions pay a lot of emphasis on the underserved and the uninsured. However, hospitals majorly endeavor to attain excellence in patient care. They intend to provide quality patient care by paying attention to clinical excellence, patient safety, and ensuring that those they serve only get the best health care.
To create a mission statement for a Community Health Partners Coalition type organization the elements of improving health care access and elimination of health disparities within the community and focusing on underserved and the uninsured will have to be integrated with elements of clinical excellence and patient safety.
Q.3. Many U.S. communities are applying for community health center grants and federal funding for community health centers to keep up with projected demand as health care reforms are rolled out. The communities seek to make health care services accessible to all without having to go to the ER or having to ask somebody to write it off (Mast, 2010). As the health care reforms are rolled out there is a likelihood that the number of the people visiting health facilities will double as evidenced in the case of Community Health Center of Central Wyoming (Mast, 2010). With the community health center grants there will be more outpatient procedures.
I would consider a career in managing community health centers because proper management of such facilities would ensure that such centers improve the quality of life of people who go to such facilities to access health care services. Such facilities play an integral role in improving lives of people with chronic diseases. Because of enactment of Affordable Care Act community health centers have become equal opportunity employers. I would therefore not hesitate to look for an employment opportunity considering that an additional 745,000 patients will be taken care of in such centers across the country.
