Renovation
My life is like an old building in need of renovation because after 50 years of use, it is in need of repair in many areas. One of the areas that needs work is the internal structure. In construction, a building is only as good as its foundation and inner strength. It may look great on the outside but if the inside is broken, it will not stand for very long. One thing I need to do to repair the inside of my "building" is go to college. The times have changed tremendously since I graduated from high school and I feel one way that I can catch up on many things is through college. In college, I can learn new skills that will help me find a better career. I also look forward to meeting others. Renovation begins inside.
Another way my life can be compared to an old building in need of repair is age. At 50, my body is not as young and resilient as it used to be. Aging alone is difficult on bodies and buildings but add to that giving birth to four children. I would like to have some reconstructive surgeries to help me feel better about myself such as a tummy tuck, breast lift, eyelift and some laser treatment on my face. This is taking care of the outside of the "building" after I have begun taking care of the inside of the building. This is the equivalent to painting a building or putting up new siding. This could also include a new roof as well as new windows and doors. With these changes, the building is almost like new. After I have these treatments, I will not only look different but I will feel different and better. This will help my self-esteem greatly. I will walk more proud and I will be more confident in all types of situations. Repairing the outside is another step toward renovation.
Sometimes an old building needs to be moved to a better location where the neighborhood is good and the business can thrive. My life is like an old building in this respect because I need a new environment. After 23 years of an unhappy marriage, I am ready to move on and see what else the world has to offer. I know that in order to grow, I must experience more. I need to find out what lies outside the same neighborhood I have lived in for all of my adult life. I want to see the other side of the world and see what good I can find there. I want to travel and learn about different cultures. I know all about raising a family; now I want to know what it is like in other parts of the world. A new environment is also part of renovation.
