Sun Trust and U.S. Bancorp have a number of characteristics and features in common with each other. The most notable is: both are large financial holding companies which are providing a variety of products / services. The way they are different is U.S. Bancorp has $383 billion in assets and the company is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their primary markets are concentrating on the Midwest and Upper Midwest. While Sun Trust is focusing on offering financial services to cliental living in the Southeastern United States. They have $187.90 billion in assets and the firm is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The above information is showing how both companies are similar from the kinds of products and services they are providing to cliental. The leadership of Sun Trust is coming from many different areas inside the financial industry. Several of the different officers include: William Rogers (CEO), Jerome Lienhard (President) and Aleem Giliani (CFO). William Rogers worked as a member of the Federal Reserve and helped to shape the different policy decisions. He has an MBA from Georgia State University. Lienhard came to the company from Freddie Mac and Toyota Motor Credit. He specializes in working with customers to create unique financing solutions. Giliani originally started working for the Bank of Boston and Fleet Financial. After the mergers in the late 1990s, is when he joined Sun Trust and brought his expertise with him. ("Sun Trust," 2012)
The business / management philosophy of the founders was to offer a regional bank that could address the needs of cliental throughout the Southeastern U.S.. The current strategy is focused on becoming a major location for all financial related products inside their core markets.
