Interviewing a Colleague

This interview focuses on a colleague who is working in the political field, as part of a marketing and advertising team for a new candidate's campaign. In order to prepare for this interview, and create the questions, the interviewer studied both this particular subject, as well as the specific candidate's beliefs and opinions. This was done in order to create questions vague enough to not give the candidate away or publicize unwanted details, but with enough details to entertain the reader and impart knowledge or insight gained.

Interview Questions and Answers

How did you become involved in this campaign?

I have always been fascinated by politics. I really wanted to use what I learned to help a cause I believed in, and this candidate has been such a fantastic person to work with to achieve this goal, so I am very glad that I was lucky enough to become involved.

What was the greatest challenge you faced?

A: We have challenges every day, whether they be technical or otherwise. Often times, part of our team does not mix with another part, or we would do an assignment that they would not be able to complement. This was in the beginning. We have gotten more organized, so it has become much better, but in the beginning, we faced the challenge of not meshing well together, I would say.

3. What was the easiest job you were given?

A: This is a great question! I think I had to make coffee one day for some guests that were to approve our campaign, so that was pretty easy…as far as my job is concerned, since I am so new at it, everything is a challenge. Maybe it will be easier in the future.

4. Where did you study and for how long?

A: I studied marketing at the University of Vermont, and I am in the process of applying for my Masters so I was in school for four years so far. I think because the candidate is relatively local, this was enough education. Also, they had a rigorous interview process, and I had to show them some of my successes, so to speak.

5. Did you ever take any online courses?

A: Not yet, but I am definitely considering them, especially since the University to which I am applying offers them. I may be on the road if we are successful with this campaign, so we will see.

6. Do you like your team? If yes, why? If no, why not?

A: I love my team. I have gotten so used to them, and they to me, and we have really found a way to click, so it is perfect.

7. Do you like your boss?

A: You know, many people would probably just say yes because they are being paid by this person, but I really like him. In fact, I had a choice whether to work for him or not, and I chose to do so because I like him and his ideas so much. So, yes.

8. How satisfied are you with your overall experiences on this assignment?
