¶ … playing ground for healthcare organizations has and continues to change; so does the relationship of health care entities to their method of access and availability, degree of consumer choice, competition, financing, effect on advanced practice nurses and other health professionals.
The course was a valuable experience for me. The thoughts were provoked and the discussions candidly professional. One major reason for the definite benefit was the student diversity in the course. The diversity of students enabled me to pose candid questions to people from different cultures thus learning more. The contents of this course have a profound effect on me as a nurse, and the entire community patient care. However, guest speakers gave encouraging and supportive comments (Basford & Slevin, 2013). As a healthcare professional, I will frequently serve patients from diverse backgrounds, personal beliefs, expectations, and experiences. I must have a sharp awareness of others and myself. This course has given me the exposure to various populations that may work with as a nurse in the course of my profession. In addition, as a student, I have learnt the perception of different situations other than the patients' perception.
As a result, I am likely to become more useful in future. Additionally, I have developed competency skills necessary for evaluating patients and administering treatment. Demonstrating such competencies during clinical rotations could prove useful, as I will be applying the skills and knowledge acquired in a practical environment. I have added various cultural competencies, which shows the level of my competencies in the culturally diverse world (Hamric, Hanson & Spross 2009).
This has been a positive experience for me and other students. During the course, I conducted extensive research. This allowed me to evaluate and remedy the misinterpretations I will experience in real practice. With the formal training on the subject, I am aware of the potential barriers to patient care. This could occur while conducting diagnosis in healthcare facilities where most patients are of diverse cultures. Because I have become culturally competent in patient care, I have gathered all resources. I am fully equipped as a nurse (Ferrell & Coyle, 2010). My enthusiasm has been gratified because I am genuinely interested in the course and share my experiences. After completing the course, I have gained examples of skills and knowledge in the practice. In the future, I will participate in community healthcare facilities to reflect my comfort with the level of my knowledge concerning cultural competence. This demonstrates a potential need for me further my training in community health, especially in the area of pharmacy.
