Courts and Lawyers

I believe that it is important to provide all criminal defendants who cannot afford legal counsel with the free services of a lawyer. The United States is built upon principles such as fairness and freedom of speech. Each criminal defendant has the right to defend him- or herself with the best of legal help available. This is also in adherence to the fundamental principle of providing each defendant with a fair trial.

Providing free lawyers to those who cannot afford it is fair. It would be unfair not to provide such services, as a lack of legal counsel can result in an unfair trial. Each defendant has the right to a fair a trial. This is a fundamental principle of the United States.

Legal representation is a fundamental human right. A lack of representation could result in wrongful conviction. This is in opposition to the constitutional guarantee of a fair trial in front of a jury of peers.

A contingency-fee arrangement between legal counsel and client is a good policy for a number of different reasons. Firstly, a legal representative provides professional services, for which he or she is rewarded. A favorable outcome should then also carry with it extra rewards. Furthermore, a contingency fee can provide an incentive for legal representatives to give their best work and increase the likelihood of a favorable outcome.
