God's covenant with Abraham: Genesis 12-23

Genesis 12-23.

The call of Abram (Genesis 12:1-9)

God promises. (Genesis12:2-3)

To make his name great.

To bless those who bless him.

To make him a great nation.

Abram leaves Haran and journeys through Canaan (Genesis 12:4-8).

With lot his wife Sarai and all his possessions.

He was 75 years old.

Abram pitched a tent and an altar at Bethel.

Abram in Egypt.

Abrams moves to Egypt because of famine.

Sarai claims to be Abram's sister in Egypt and is taken up by pharaoh who is later punished with diseases by God for his refusal to let Israelites go.

Abram is sent away by pharaoh with his wife and wealth.

Abram and Lot separate. (Genesis13:1-18)

They quarreled over the land.

Lot moves to Sodom and Abram remains in Canaan.

Abram rescues Lot. (Genesis14:1-24)

A. Other kings rise against the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and seized their wealth including Lot.

B. Lot, now an escapee reports to Abram.

C. Abram sets out with 318 men and rescues his nephew and his all his possessions.

D. King Melchizedek blesses Abram and Abram gave him 10% of everything

V. God's covenant with Abram. (Genesis15:1-20)

A. Abram receives a vision.

1. He sees many stars equivalent to his offspring.

B. God asks Abram to sacrifice.

C. Abram falls asleep. God covenants with him.

VI. Hagar and Ishmael.(Genesis16:1-16)

A. Abram sleeps with Hagar and bears Ishmael.

B. Sarai mistreats Hagar and she flees.

C. The angel meets with Hagar and tells her to go back and bore Abram a son at 86 years.

VII. The covenant of circumcision.(Genesis17:1-27)

A. The lord appears to Abram and changes his name to Abraham.

B. To mark this he makes a covenant with him and was to be circumcising the males in his household.

VIII. The three visitors. (Genesis 18:1-15)

A. Abraham sees three men come into his home and harries to them and tells sarai to attend to them.

B. They tell Abraham that Sarai was going to be pregnant.

IX. Abraham pleads for Sodom. (Genesis18:16-33)

A. God tells Abraham of the sins in Sodom and Gomorrah and his intentions to destroy them.

B. Abrahams pleads for them if only 10 were holy they be saved
