¶ … adopt' running as my sport, and from then, the said activity has been my passion for many years, up until now. I was never the 'sporty' type, and I do not deny the fact that I'm a lousy 'athlete' when it comes to sports that has balls in it (volleyball, basketball, badminton, tennis, etc.). The primary reason why I took up running as my personal sport and hobby is that I feel like I belong and good at something even though I can never be the jock I've always dreamt to be.
A at first thought running is something that is easy to do. Because of my assumption that running is an easy sport and activity to be involved with, I took for granted the benefits that I began to see when I took up running seriously three years ago. What made me decide to run for real and for a long time is when I became fat from eating so much after my final examinations. I have the tendency to eat too much rice and chocolates whenever I study and concentrate for an upcoming exam, and the time wherein I always experience these sudden bouts of hunger, and eventual increase in body weight, is during my finals week.
A never thought I'd 'blow' myself up too much after my finals week until I saw myself in the mirror, and what I saw is an image of a young woman who have too flabby arms and legs, and a not-so-clear complexion as a result of too much eating and overindulgence in the bed to sleep. The funny thing is, I really took notice of my complexion first, and not at my body weight. I've always been conscious of my skin complexion, and when I noticed that my skin is not as healthy and clear as it was, I began worrying about what to do about my descent to flabbiness and overindulgence in eating and sleeping.
The first remedy that came to me is to involve myself with a physical activity wherein I can regain my once healthy and clear complexion, and to gradually lose weight without starving myself by not eating. Running became an easy option, since it was an activity where everybody seemed to participate in, and I thought the physical exertion is not that heavy as compared to other, more complicated sports. I was wrong. On my first week of following my running regimen (which consists of running the academic oval of the university for at least two hours (maximum)), I was ready to give up running. Not only is it tiring, but running will also test your determination and perseverance. Every mile that you cover is a battle between continuing running or giving up to the weakness of your determination. After several weeks of faithfully following my regimen (except for days when it is rainy and there are special things to do), running became a routine for me. I became a common sight at the academic oval every morning, from six to eight in the morning, and I was able to achieve my goal to regain back my regular weight and clear complexion (my ultimate motive for running).
