There are several types of evidence one could use to develop the thesis that "The convenience of earning my degree online has taught me more about myself than I ever anticipated." The first type of evidence is historical. It explores how unexpected it was to learn more about oneself. Going into the online degree program, there may have been few expectations about whether one would learn anything about the self. Perhaps the program was thought of in purely intellectual terms, without thinking about the human effect on self-knowledge. As a result of the program, those expectations, or lack of expectations, were challenged. Earning the degree online proved to be much more than just increasing knowledge. In fact, it may have exceeded expectations by broadening the person's view in a number of personal ways that went beyond studying. It shows how the person's expectations changed.

A second type of evidence is social or sociological. One could look at the way one's relationships have changed as a result of earning a degree online. For example, it is possible that studying online has allowed the person to devote more time to friendships than previously. Because it is more convenient and less time consuming, there is greater opportunity for meeting friends. There is more flexibility as well, so that one's schedule can adapt to the schedule of others who may have less time. Within this type of evidence, one could look at work relationships. If the online degree allows the person to get a new job or increases their confidence and self-esteem, then likely new relationships will develop out of this. Economically, if one has more money, one can do more with others, perhaps even engaging in activities that previously were out of reach. As a result, social relations are expanded. One learns more about oneself because of this expansion. One finds that one is more extraverted, for example, and that one has developed friendships outside the norm. Other people now react differently to the person because of what she has learned, which is proof that he or she has learned something about the self. It shows how the person's relations changed.

A third type of evidence is psychological. Here there is more focus on what the person feels and thinks. The experience of getting an online degree has changed them inside. They view themselves differently because of their encounter with the subject matter of the classes or their interactions online. Perhaps they become more introverted in some sense, because they spend time alone rather than in classes. This is not contradictory with developing friendships. It is just that time is spent in a more isolated situation. Out of this, the person realizes either that they do or do not like being isolated. Self-knowledge is gained. It shows how the person's self-changed.
