Understanding social myths

It is true that the stories should not get exposure in the media because of their status in the public. Most of the public believe that such crimes are impossible. Exposing the story about harming women would make it possible for others in the public to commit the same because of the view that it is a common happening. This gross crime should not be in the media for the public to see. Further, there should be exercising of death penalty against the individual carrying out cannibalism since (death penalty) is the best way to prevent other people from carrying out the crime. Death penalty is the best way of proving the effect of the crime to the society hence most people will take the crime as having far-reaching effect. In the end, nobody would like to die, hence this will act as deterrence for people who would like to involve in the crime. It is also true that internet chat rooms enforce security threats in the society because of the privacy offered. Individuals from different regions can discuss schemes of carrying out a crime without the security realizing the plans. It is not easy to track the individuals because of the little details about them; consequently, fee for the chat rooms would help in providing the required details that can help in tracking the individuals.

Steubenville High School Football Players' Rape Trial

I agree with the reply that the exposing the case to the public would deny the teenage girl the required privacy. Rape cases require privacy for the victims in order for the individual to expose all the happenings. However, exposure would make the individual fear for her reputation in the public thereby restricting her in the provision of evidence. Further, I also agree with the opinion that the alleged witnesses, who videotaped the situation, should also be responsible for the crime. The witness has no credibility since they were also in the rape scene meaning they also had closer touch to the crime. The most appropriate action, for the alleged witness, was to report immediately to the police instead of capturing the unpleasant event. I also agree to the use of media recovery devices to help in recovering the deleted record. The police cannot afford loosing the evidence since it is the most appropriate way of deciding on the case. The police should be in custody of the devices that can help in retrieving deleted media because this act as a way of securing evidences in the public.

Sentencing reform

I support the view that there should be improvement in the penal system to ensure that there is relief of the overcrowding problem. The improvement in the penal system involves diversifying on the penalties that an individual undergoes without including prisons as a vital solution. This would involve the states re-evaluating the sentence terms for the low-level crimes. Only the high-risk offenders should be in prisons while the state should go for other methods like house arrest and microchip technology in cases of low-level offenders (Kraska & Bent, 2011). This ensure that there is reduction in the number of prisoners while also cutting down on the government expenses; consequently, providing assurance for efficiency.
