¶ … Change Effort
One of the primary responsibilities of all nurses is serving as an effective leader. This means that they are playing a central role in helping to introduce change inside an organization. To fully understand how this is taking place requires carefully examining one that recently occurred inside a location we have worked at. This will be accomplished by looking at the catalyst for change, the way it affects responsibilities, the results, how it was managed and the strategies for improving the process. Together, these elements will highlight the most effective approaches for dealing with these issues and impact of these techniques for enacting changes inside a health care organization. (Battilana, 2010) (Grant, 2010)
What was the catalyst or purpose of the change?
A transformation that occurred recently inside our health care organization was focusing on improving safety practices. This is from a number of patients being adversely impacted because healthcare professionals were overlooking critical aspects of care which are vital to their treatment. Yet, they are routine and seemed somewhat repetitive. To reduce potential liabilities, meant that new standards needed to be imposed and staff members had to pay closer attention to every aspect of their job. (Battilana, 2010) (Grant, 2010)
How did the change affect your job and responsibilities?
The changes had a major impact on my responsibilities by requiring increased supervision and greater levels of accountability. This is when we had to serve in more of supervisory position to ensure that everyone is following the new procedures. At the same time, I was expected to be a liaison between doctors, administrators and the rest of the staff in implementing these transformations. This required having the flexibility to understand what was taking place and introducing strategies for encouraging compliance. (Battilana, 2010) (Grant, 2010)
Consider the results of the change and whether or not the intended outcomes have been achieved. Was the change managed skillfully? Why or why not?
The lasting effects are that the changes were reluctantly implemented. This is from health care professionals believing that the administration was forcing some kind of shift on everyone for no reason at all and not explaining the rationale behind what was happening. Moreover, this added to the pressures on the leadership by making them take on greater responsibilities and it increased their caseloads / levels of stress. (Battilana, 2010) (Grant, 2010)
