From 2018 to 2019, Edwin Agbi, part of an international group creating fake profiles and stealing at least $75,000 from adults over the age of 50, used false personas in online romance scams to get people to send money to him. The goal was to con people out of their money. This is significant because it leads to loss of billions of dollars a year to con artists. A possible solution is for people to avoid giving out personal information to people met online.
