Databases in the Work Center

My organization uses Microsoft Access for its work. It uses several applications from Microsoft Access that my company uses. For example, appointments from customers, their orders, and products requirements are easily recorded in Access Database. There are several advantages of using Microsoft Access. It makes it convenient to model and analyze current data processing needs and make querying those data (Kroenke, 2003). Moreover, Microsoft Access offers advantages in analyzing in detail the transactions, forms, displays and integrate logical views into conceptual data model.

In addition, Microsoft Access is used for printing receipts of the customer visits, transactions, and payment options. Other advantages of Microsoft Access are that it allows a simple way of modifying data structure as the business needs change. In addition, Microsoft Access allows easily correcting errors; improving processing and finding the exceptional data that provide quick information about the company's dealings with customers. The foremost advantage of Microsoft Access is that it is easy to learn and employees enjoying it rather than using the paper for recording the customer transaction.

The main advantages that my organization is receiving by using Microsoft Access applications is that it can easily share critical information for taking proactive actions. Moreover, the use of Microsoft Access applications enables for making quick decisions in checking the credit-history, past transactions, and unpaid bills of customers.

In brief, the organization is making use of the Microsoft applications for the following purposes: First, the company is making timely performance and employee attendance reporting and measurement. Second, the company is using applications for recording customer information and their transactions. Third, the company is using applications for increasing the availability and accuracy of transaction data and inventory records.

Finally, the company uses Microsoft applications for expanding its business opportunities by providing quick information about customer requests.

Right now, the company is growing and it finds itself overwhelmed with growing information needs from customers and their increasing transactions. The company is realizing that to meet the needs they will need to update their software to meet the future needs of the business. The company is also recognizing that presently the applications that the company is using are full of security holes. Anyone can browse and download confidential data about customers and their transactions (McFadden, Hoffer, and Prescott, 1999). The company is taking adequate steps to improve these security gaps. For example, the company has featured Microsoft Access on a LAN rather than the personal computers. By doing so, the company makes it sure that before anyone can look customer and their transaction data, they need to use a password to access the data. This strategy has been quite helpful in preventing the download of unauthorized data.
