War on Terror
Our country is engaged in a war on terrorism, and some people believe it is a war we cannot win. I believe they are wrong. This war on terrorism is justified for a number of reasons. First, creating the Homeland Security Department and becoming much more diligent about security has kept another terror attack from occurring in our country. After 9/11, there was talk of more terror attacks and where they country was vulnerable, such as nuclear power plants, dams, and other locations. Terror attacks have not occurred in these areas, or anywhere in the country, and that means the war on terrorism is working, and it is justified.
In addition, terrorist attacks have occurred in other areas of the world, like Madrid and London, which proves that terrorism is not going away. It is simply under more control in America because of the war on terrorism. It makes it more difficult for terrorists to enter the country and try to commit acts of terror, and that is a very good thing. If the war on terrorism has thwarted just one terror attack, that would take many lives, then it is a good thing, and it is totally justified.
Some people believe the war on terror has reduced civil rights and has raised security levels too much. However, the war on terror is necessary to save lives, and if people have to go through more security or lose some personal rights, it is justified. It is better to remain safe from terrorism, and to ensure the public safety, and a few minutes more in line at the airport is a small price to pay for safety and security. The people that complain the most about these problems would be the first to blame the government if an attack occurred, so their complaints are not justified, and do not represent the feelings of the entire nation.
The war on terrorism is not just taking place in America, it is happening around the world. A good example is the terror ring in Germany that was broken up and uncovered enough materials to bomb and kill thousands of people. The war on terror does not have boundaries, because terrorists can be anywhere, and can target many different types of locations and people. Expanding the war on terror is justified, because there are many Americans overseas, and many foreign countries support America, and they become targets, too. This means we have to support our allies as well as our own internal war on terrorism, and supporting our allies helps keep us safer, as well.
