Decision making is the process of making a choice by selecting the best among the different alternatives. Before decisions are made, one has to evaluate all the alternatives from which the advantages and disadvantages are known. My most important decision that I recently made was my career choice; that is nursing profession. Choosing my career was not an easy task given that I was to choose the best from the two options I had; that is, choosing to do nursing or engineering profession. As a result, I chose on one most appropriate model; that is intuitive decision making-model that helped me in making appropriate decision on the best career.

Select the most appropriate model reflecting the type of decision.

Decision modeling is significant in providing a framework for making informed decisions by simulating probable outcomes, using stress-testing key decisions. Today, many people are using various decision-making models such as rational decision, intuitive decision and critical thinking for decision making; however, the most appropriate model reflecting the type of decision I made in choosing my career is intuitive decision. Actually, I strongly believe that everyone has some sense of gut feeling or intuition in the same way the managers happen to rely heavily on intuition for decision making.

While in school, I chose nursing as my profession. This is because I wanted a career which was challenging and interesting, and also, I knew that with nursing as my profession, I would always have a decent job for decent money in spite of my future in any lifestyle. Today, I can testify that I have worked in many settings in a dozen positions using the knowledge and skills that acquired after my college graduation. I had looked at the job market as well as, potential for employment in my country, both at that time and in the future, and actually this is the reason as to why I could not have done anything differently with what I chose because this was a decision in the long run.

Construct one of the decision-making models that align best to your decision

Intuitive decision is one of the decision-making models that align best to my decision on career choice because it has proven to be one of the practical tools for decision making. In addition, the model does not depend on reason; as a result one tends to do what he/she feels is right by 'knowing' of what the best answer is. While making decision on my career choice, I did not know exactly how and where these ideas came from; however, I simply knew it is not from myself. Intuitive decision as a skill also allows one to recognize the situational possibilities as well as, making quick decisions.
