¶ … deeply moved by an event that transpired during the course of my nursing practicum that stressed to me that nurses are healers who, in their finest form, approach helping patients holistically, addressing the socioeconomic, cultural, and emotional aspects of their patients as well. During the course of my internship, a homeless patient (we can call him Mr. E) was admitted to the hospital and was subjected to a significant amount of stigma and bias in his treatment from his medical providers due to his housing status. The stigma that homeless persons endure in medical settings as well as in the world at large has been well-documented, but witnessing the experience of Mr. E provided a harsh real-world example of this stigma in action. The prescribed medication is efficient in the treatment of the condition, but Mr. E was clearly not taking it, based on the symptoms he was experiencing at the time of admission. Many of the nurses on the floor on which Mr. E had been staying were speaking poorly of the patient, indicating he had caused his own problems by not taking his medication and taking care of himself When my preceptor and I arrived on the floor and received Mr. E's chart from the night nurse, she spoke of his medical non-compliance judgmentally. No one took the time to find out why Mr. had not been taking his medication.. My preceptor did take the time to speak to Mr. E, however, and discovered that the patient was homeless and unable to afford his medication as it was not covered by Medicare. It is, indeed, an expensive medication but it is essential for Mr. E's survival.
Given the severity of Mr. E's medical condition, his medication is essential to his survival and quality of life, and thus my preceptor took swift…

But the God in the epic does intervene to make sure that good really comes out victorious in the end, such as when he makes Thierry win over Pinable in a duel. The unknown author of the epic presents the Muslims as unquestionably and inherently evil and base, the reverse of the Christians (Bouneuf 2005). Although the

Introduction The Renaissance was a time in which humanism and classical order united in the height of Christendom’s cultural power. The Renaissance would eventually be eclipsed by the Protestant Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, and the Age of Enlightenment—all of which in some way reduced the achievements of the Renaissance and undermined the accomplishments of the era’s greats. Leonardo da Vinci was one such great of the Renaissance: in fact, it may

Leonardo's Last Supper (1495-1498) does something very different from the other Renaissance portrayals of this scene from the Gospel. Unlike Andrea del Castagno's or Domenico Ghirlandaio's Last Supper versions, Leonardo's is at once more earthly (neither Christ nor the Apostles wear halos) and chaotic than the others -- and yet at the same time it is substantially more divine and imposing in its stark simplicity. This paper will trace the

Life After Death: Afterlife Within the Realm of Ancient Greek Beliefs The question as to what happens after death is not fathomable within human reason. As such, it remains one of the biggest mysteries of life. The belief in life after death is what keeps the hopes of the human race intact even in the face of the tragedy of death. The concept 'afterlife' appears absurd in light of rational thought

Disrupting America's economic system is a fundamental objective of terrorists Even as the world continues to struggle with the terrible shock from the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington, one principle lesson has already become clear: disrupting our economic system is a fundamental objective of terrorists. Prior to September 11, our economic environment was certainly not immune to terror, in comparison to many other nations; we lived relatively terror-free. Now,
