Today, any young girl is interested in organizations or associations that would help her to promote her sense of self in the world today. I believe that the best way for me, personally, to ensure that I become a well rounded person as a result of my studies, would be to join a sorority such as the Columbia MD Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. This past summer has created for me a clear sense of solidarity among women, which solidified my interest in becoming part of this sorority. I am hopeful that the information I am about to share will show not only my sincerity, but also my suitability to belong to this renowned institution.

During my years of study, I have gained a number of prestigious awards and accomplishments. One of these is that I have become an alumnus of the Colorado Christian University. At this institution, I gained a degree in Organization Management. I also have an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

In terms of leadership, I have become pivotal and active in various security organizations, including the Chapter Chair for NCMS Maryland Chapter. This Chapter is now the second largest in NCMS. Under my leadership, the membership tripled, the Chapter's revenue more than doubled, and the group earned the prestigious "Chapter of Excellence" award for each year that I took leadership. I am also an active member and Vice President of the Association Background Investigator.

One of my greatest blessings has been to be a business owner; I started a company in 2002 on a part-time basis while working full time in a corporate position. In 2011, I took a leap of faith to run the business full time, and have never looked back. The business has gone from strength to strength and is now Security First and Associates. Despite the inevitable challenges and setbacks, I have not given up. I know this is where I should be. I fully understand that giving back, helping others and being involved with the community are components of ultimate success.

It follows that being associated with an organization such as Delta Sigma Theta, standing on the principles of integrity, leadership, social change, community and sisterhood, is another integral part of being successful. These are the values I have been striving to fulfil.

I am currently participating in several community-based projects, including grassroots, secure the call, bags & bears, and House of Ruth. Because life is a joy to me, I would like others to experience the same sense of well-being. To promote this idea, one of my aims is to break the vicious cycle life has become to some people. For this reason, I believe it is a necessity to support those organizations who give back to our community through programs of positive impact for all.

One of these is Secure the Call, a non-profit coalition that receives donations by phone and converts these into a 911 emergency only option for victims of domestic violence. House of Ruth is another of the nation's leading domestic violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and children find the safety and security that so many of us take for granted.

I took these as inspiration to create an organization called Make a Change. Through Make a Change, Bags & Bears was created. We collect new and slightly used luggage, teddy bears and back packs for children in the foster care program. In addition to these, I have also written several eBooks on the dangers associated with teenagers texting and driving. Based on my experience, I have been asked to speak at various colleges on the topic of the Security Clearance Process. I participate in these opportunities because I want to educated individuals, and especially minorities, on obtaining and maintaining security clearance in government and the private industry workforce. I am also involved the Fort Meade Alliance chapter, educating middle school and high school students about the security clearance process.
