Dallas Mavericks -- Game 6 -- June, 12th 2011

I walked into the bar with my friends Joe and Bob. The game was television on about half a dozen big screens that surrounded the seating area which looked kind of like a hall of mirrors. Bob commented, "Now that's what I'm talking about." The television setup made it hard to look in any direction and not be able to see the game. Bob had been talking about the upcoming game all week and this was obviously a good choice of venues; Joe was more interested in the beer. The combination of views coupled with the sound that emerged from every direction through both the television speakers as well as a commercial grade central sound system that would put even the best home theatre set ups to shame.

Bob looked as if he was about to jump out of his shoes but nearly every face you saw was noticeably ecstatic. People looked as if they were children getting there first peak at the Christmas gifts that Santa left under the tree. Everyone seemed to be arguing about something; who would win, what the final score would be, or who the best player was. Joe was more interested in who the prettiest cheerleader was, "I think I like the brunette," he said. Bob fired back, "No it's the second blonde from the right, and you don't know anything."

The stage was set and the tip off served up a brief pause in the level of noise that surrounded our table which made Joe seemed relieved; he was complaining earlier about the sound. The opening ten minutes was arguably one of the greatest displays of athletic talent that was exhibited in the entire series. LeBron James made his first four straight shots and with each one Bob yelled, "Block that, block that, come on refer bull your head out you're…"

However, in basketball the tables can turn quickly. Even though at this point Miami had a twenty to eleven lead in front of their home crowd, this did not deter the Mavericks which caused the bar to erupt. Joe put his fingers in his ears to try to block the sound. The crowd was so loud that you could feel the noise vibrate through your entire body and at the actual stadium I bet this was amplified by an order of magnitude.

The Mavericks subsequently retaliated against the Heat with a clear message -- they were there to win. "I can't believe it took them so long to get warmed up, there back in it now" commented Bob. They made nine out of twelve shots each one met with escalating cheers. "I'm going to go get another round of beers and try to talk to that waitress" Joe tried to say over the noise. Although we couldn't quite make out what he said we got the gist and gave him a nod.
