Desert Breeze Park

Background of Facility

Desert Breeze Park is located at 8275 Spring Mountain Rd. between S. Cimarron Road and Durango Drive in Las Vegas. A County park, Desert Breeze is one of the largest parks in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Desert Breeze Park occupies about 20,000 square feet of land and is surrounded mainly by mixed commercial and residential zones. Because the facilities at the park are extensive, ranging from a skate park to a community center, Desert Breeze caters to persons of all ages and interests. Desert Breeze is an all-purpose metropolitan recreational center designed to fit the needs of the community as well as its visitors year-round. Primary purposes of the park include athletics, recreation, cultural events, and green space.

Description of Facility

Desert Breeze Park boasts a number of high-quality sporting and recreational facilities including indoor and outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, several large athletic fields for soccer and football, hockey rinks, and an aquatic center with both pool and water park. Visitors can easily escape the hot sun by seeking solace in Desert Breeze's shaded or indoor areas.

Additionally, Desert Breeze has one of the best-known skate parks in Las Vegas with mainly intermediate and advanced runs. Separate areas of Desert Breeze are designated off-leash dog areas and separate sections are set aside for small and large dogs. The park also has a view of the Las Vegas strip and offers several spots for picnics and sightseeing. Large outdoor concerts, festivals, and cultural events are frequently held at Desert Breeze too. The Fourth of July celebration at the park is particularly well-attended. Furthermore, the Desert Breeze Community Center located on park grounds offers classes and activities for people of all ages.

Analysis of Facility

Desert Breeze is a boon for Las Vegas residents who need a nearby break from the urban sprawl. The park also offers tourists an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise a short distance away from the Strip. Visitors can save on gas by cycling in or taking the bus, which drops off and picks up passengers at the park. Nothing negative can be said about Desert Breeze. Admission is free, water fountains are plentiful, and the range of facilities and opportunities for fun are plentiful for people of all ages. The park is large but well-laid out with a central road, wheelchair access paths, parking, and regular public bus service. Shady areas offer needed breaks from the sun while at the same time preserving an outdoors-focused experience. Recreational facilities are open late and are as unrestrictive and welcoming as possible. One of the most attractive features of Desert Breeze is that it is not overly manicured and blends in with the local desert flora.

Conclusion

Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas exemplifies sound city planning and provides for the genuine needs of an urban-area community. Especially in central Las Vegas, where concrete overtakes nature, Desert Breeze is like an oasis. Young people will especially benefit from the park's ample recreational facilities and therefore the park becomes a valuable asset for keeping the community safe and aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, because Desert Breeze is large it can accommodate for huge festivals, concerts, and cultural events crowds, increasing interest and awareness of the facility and ensuring its long-term survival.
