Post as a Team, a Total of Three Paragraphs (one Posting for Each Team):
• Two paragraphs in which you compare your and your partner's coding structure and strategies.
• One paragraph in which you analyze and discuss the experience of hand coding and issues of quality.
Hand coding is one of the most common approaches of data integration in most organizations. It is necessary in delivering big projects in time and with minimal problems. We organized the materials into groups before beginning the process of coding. This created differences in strategies of coding since we applied different languages or images in marking the segments. We used different categories to label the groups of data using our different languages. It is necessary to note that we used different segments, which have unequal amount of data under analysis (Raser & Lemon, 2011). We recorded the existing data after assembling the necessary tools to perform the initial analysis.
Variations existed in the process of data analysis since we got strange codes, which were not expected in the start of the study. The codes I used addressed a larger theoretical scope than the one used by my companion. This led to different results from the same analysis since we had completely different results from the coding process. This is because we developed different codes from different emerging evidence from the participants. In addition to this, the codes that emerged in the process of data analysis were considerable different leading to inconsistent codebooks (Raser & Lemon, 2011).
From the inconsistencies experienced in the coding process, it was evident that our process had several weaknesses. This is emerged from human error resulting from repetitive tasks. It also needed more time in order to enhance accuracy of the output. This could have adverse implications since more funds would be required for training to enhance consistency in results (Raser & Lemon, 2011). However, there is still no guarantee of attaining measurable benefits after completing the coding process. This makes data coding to be of low quality as compared to the modern methods of integrating data because of its inconsistent outcomes in case of coding similar data by different people.
