Implications to Practice/Policy Changes

· The project seeks to promote changes in nursing practice with regards to pain management and improving communication of pain medication schedule in the postpartum setting.

Essential I: Scientific Underpinnings

· Kristen Swanson’s Theory of Caring.

· Relationship-based Care model.

· Changing nursing role from task-centered care to relationship-based care.

· Application of the five processes of care described in Swanson’s Theory of Caring in the postpartum setting.

· Promoting effective pain management nursing practice through the five process of care to help enhance patient outcomes.

Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership

· Development of clinical practice guidelines with regards to pain management in the postpartum setting.

· Promoting the use of evidence-based interventions in pain management in the postpartum setting.

· Through this project, evidence-based practice will become the basis of nursing practice in the postpartum setting and enhancing patient satisfaction.

Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods

· Seeking approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the application of this scholarly project.

· Making necessary changes to the scholarly project based on feedback from the IRB.

· The implication for practice is enhancing the development of a plan for nurses to design evidence-based interventions for pain management in the postpartum setting.

Essential IV: Information Systems/Technology

· Using insights from the Informatics course for data retrieval and interpretation for this scholarly project.

· The implication for practice is use of research and statistics to formulate nursing interventions that transform daily clinical practice in the postpartum setting.

Essential V: Healthcare Policy for Advocacy

· Advocating for improvement clinical practice in the postpartum setting.

· Advocating for use of evidence-based interventions towards enhancing patient outcomes in the postpartum setting.

· The implication for practice is creating a framework for enhanced nursing practice and advocating for the patient with regards to better pain management and clinical outcomes.

Essential VI: Interprofessional Collaboration

· Working with different educators in the University’s Doctor of Nursing program to develop evidence-based interventions for nursing practice in the postpartum setting.

· Engaging in interprofessional workshops that focus on improving clinical practice through integration of evidence-based practice in nursing.

· The implication for practice is provision of additional opportunities for improved understanding of issues relating to this scholarly project.

Essential VII: Clinical Prevention and Population Health

· Population Health served as the guideline for determining the population to enlist for this scholarly project.

· Population research was conducted to determine clinical intervention for improved patient outcomes.
