Drafting a Charter for USWA

The purpose of this charter document is to define the goals of the United Student World Assembly (USWA) and how it will be structured and define the location for assembly meetings. The document will also provide rules for making decisions at USWA and lastly the charter document will discuss at least one major issue facing students today and provide possible solutions to this problem.

Goals of USWA

The goals of this organization is to: provide meetings around the world where students can exchange ideas and vote on global issues that are affecting them through the online debate and later the issues are analyzed in global conventions and proper solutions are made. USWA will promote cooperation and understanding among students around the world; promote democracy among the students, promote cooperation among the students in various global institutions as well as promote understanding among the students. The organization will also aim at reducing poverty among the students, help the students attain common education, promote equality in the institution and developing an international partnership for development.

Structure of the Organization

The structural committee of the organization will be composed of the following sections: Top on the leadership is the board of directors. The board of directors will be responsible in developing the vision of the organization and managing activities in the organization. They will also provide guidance to the executive director whom they elect. Next is the board of advisors whose responsibility will be to increase the visibility of the organization, its reach and reputation. They will also provide advice to the board of directors and the managing director of the organization. Staff composed of salaried members and voluntary members from various international institutions will also form part of the organization stricture. To manage the staff and the activities of USWA is the managing director who will be directly report to the board. Others who will be part of the organization structure are the advisors, appointed by the managing director, international officers elected online. The committee will be elected by student members.

Location for assembly meetings

USWA members will carry out their discussions online through electronic forums. They will also vote for global issues and elect their leaders through the online voting systems that have been developed. Annual global convention will be held to discuss the ideas exchanged online by the students and thereafter these ideas will be converted into useful actions.

Rules for making decisions

The proposal on global issues will be submitted by 15th of the next month and it will contain a title, contain a 500 words explanation of why the issues should be taken up for discussion by the members, and have at least five sub-questions and sources. For an issue to be taken up for discussion it will have at least 10% of the members vote. Only two issues will be brought up for discussion in a year at the annual meeting. Any affiliation will be permitted by the committee; the chapters will be analyzed by the event committee and then submitted to the speaker, who will then submit them to the managing director for approval. The chapters will only be discussed if they at least have 7 members presenting them and thereafter they will submit the document to the committee to be verified.
