Adjourning

While recognizing the sates of team development and the development of an organization around teams is important, it is similarly necessary for managers to investigate the roles played by team members. It is only through a well-matched team with different members that are able to perform multiple tasks that successful adjourning can take place. A good team consists of those who have an attitude of appreciation for the company, who wants to achieve not only for monetary and personnel gains, but also so that the company can succeed. In this dynamic, teams are far less prone to power struggles or manipulation by one team member. Indeed, when natural leaders take leadership roles in groups, but allow themselves to consider suggestions of other group members, successful adjourning can be achieved. That is, when groups have a positive dynamic, it is much easier for those teams to achieve their goals and more on to productivity in other areas. Thus, adjourning is a much more successful process, a process that leads to further productivity, when teams are made up of members that complement each other. For this reason, management must concern themselves not only with team development, but also upon forming successful teams. It is the responsibility of the management to form teams consisting of individuals who will work well together, while it is the responsibility of the individual to attempt to make a difference within his or her group. Management should consider such means as group participation workshops, team building using skills testing or other measures of personality strengths and weaknesses. In addition, they should allow their groups to have autonomy, while still monitoring them to make sure optimal group achievement is occurring. When the successful group reaches the adjournment stage, it is also the responsibility of the management to carry this successful group into the next stage of productivity, namely other group activities that are well suited for this group's specific makeup.

Business Etiquette

Whether working as an entry-level employee, manager, or CEO, business etiquette can be a difficult concept to grasp. Although it is important to extend courtesies to our business partners, superiors, and others that we do business with, it is often easy to forget such things. The first reason why this might happen is the fact that most people have learned to segregate their business and personal lives. Because they label their interactions with one set of people as "business" than they feel less of a need to extend courtesies to them. Further, when many workers tend to think about their business relationships, they are focused on how they can make a positive impression on the other person in order to achieve the business goals that they want to achieve. Realizing that certain courtesies, such as showing up on time, calling at a convenient time, or giving advance notice of visits, not only make a better impression on the other individual, but they also allow one partner to extend another a common courtesy. Another reason why it may be difficult for businesspeople to understand business etiquette is culture difference. Globalization has made the business world a more diverse area. Whether one is working in an office in his or her own country or negotiating business dealings with clients and partners in other cultures, cultural and ethnic differences can place stress on the business etiquette relationship. One person may not know that another from a different culture is offended by certain hand gestures or does not find it appropriate to discuss certain topics. Finally, business has a great deal to do with why business ethics remains a difficult concept to grasp. In the business world, most people are incredibly busy. Because they think the focus of business is money or achievements for themselves and the company, some are just willing to sacrifice ethical behaviors for reasons of time and comfort. In order to solve these problems, managers may use tactics like diversity training and courses in business ethics, as well as rewards for being kind and considerate.
