¶ … seminar was revolving more around why childhood education is important and the various credentials that support increased effort in this arena. Even though there were many related topics covered in this seminar, the major objective and goal is the relevance of early childhood education. It has been stated that early childhood development is a time when the child not only develops physically but socially, emotionally and cognitively as well. The infants enter into this world with a certain group of abilities and talents. They have many potentials that need to be worked on and brought out by the parents.
When looking into this subject through the perspective of a psychologist, many different theories can be used For instance; Sigmund Freud talked about the three essays sexuality and the different stages that a child must pass through in the right way. If a child does not successfully finish a stage, he or she develops behavior that remains permanent on his adult personality. Consequently, there are drifts in personality noted that would not have been present if child development hadn't been done in a proper way.
Another psychologist Erik Erikson proposed the theory of development that looked over human growth over the years. Parental guidance and support through the infant years are related to the establishment of confidence and self-esteem in the child. If parents go on to encourage the child, he will be able to establish goals and be involved in activities in his life. His thinking and goal setting habits will be established based on how he is encouraged in his child hood.
Considering the above discussion, it is clear that the seminar therefore looks into the relevance of child development in both biological and psychological means. It is relevant to see that childhood development is also an important determinant of health over the life of the child (Lazar et.al, 1982) The early years in a child's life provide decent opportunity for growth of the child and vulnerability to harm. There has been a direct correlation made between the living conditions of the child and his health status in the early years. The center for disease control and prevention published a community guide in which preventive services were emphasized within the community.
This directed towards the sanitary and dietary condition of the child and his further development. It has been stated that early childhood development opportunities are a midway determinant of the health outcome for not only the individual and the community as well. The health that the individual has makes a direct impact on the community and vice versa. Therefore, child development in the early years has an impact on the overall condition of the community and the society.
The development that the child has both physically and mentally will determine his enthusiasm and readiness to enter school. It will affect the child's interest and desire to attain and grasp more educational opportunities. Furthermore, it is noted that there is a strong correlation between the adult disease outcome and educational attainment (Zigler et.al, 1992) Overall, this shows that the physical and educational development of the child makes an impact on the child's future and the overall condition of the society at the same time.
At the end of the seminar, recommendations were included that covered the overall objective of childhood development. It was recommended that instead of focusing on the biological aspect of childhood development, the focus should be on the behavioral and social factors as well. All these factors should link the different levels of influence so that the overall development of the child is done in a healthy way.
Furthermore, a lot of emphasis is given on the improvement of the education programs. It has been recommended that center-based early education programs that are implemented on a much wider scale. The interventions that are to be carried out in the future should also be directed at the young children and infants. These educational interventions should affect the influence of other process such as the home, environment, neighborhood and school impact on the child.
Lastly, the preventive measures that can be carried out by the family were discussed in the seminar. In this part, the impact of stress was discussed. A study carried out by Felitti et.al (1998) stated that adverse childhood experiences such as domestic violence, abuse, neglect and family dysfunction. There was a positive correlation discovered between these adversities and the increased incidence of both social and health problems. The main thing was that there is something known as normal stress and then there is toxic stress. The aforementioned scenarios depict toxic stress and are therefore damaging to the child. The child should undergo his share of bad days or stress as they also positively contribute to the childhood development (Bornstein, 2013)
