The best way to value the goodwill created by an amenable contract bid is by the length of the contract and the additional business that it generates with that client for clients referred by the present client.

From my personal experience attempting to gain contracts through an employment placement agency, providing an accessible starting bid for compensation can attract the attention of hiring companies. The goodwill and access generated by this kind of bid can ultimately lead to a more lucrative offer for fulltime employment.

This competitive advantage is considerably tempered by its association with acid reflux and the equally strong association between Nyquil and cold treatment.

The best way to overcome this is to use a penetration strategy of pricing, which will allow consumers to make a favorable price comparison between the products in question as well. As for Proctor and Gamble, its best play is to use its marketing channels to remind consumers of the inextricable association between its brand and the effective treatment of cold and cough symptoms. This may serve as a way to tacitly undermine Alka-Seltzer's attempt to reposition itself within the marketplace.

If Bayer is currently making normal profits on most of the products in its product line, but is making pure profits on its new Alka-Seltzer Plus with decongestant, what should Bayer do to increase its profits?

As for Bayer, its transition into the cold remedy marketing as a serious competitor will depend substantially on its ability to insert and strengthen its association with cold and cough treatment. This means that it is incumbent upon Bayer to move from a place of pure profit to one of normal profit with Alka-Seltzer Plus with decongestant by ramping up its production and the investment in marketing it.
