Enterprise-Wide Telecommunications Network The illustrated company is a global company engaged in the development of audio and video special effects for the entertainment and advertising industry. The primary design centers of the company are located in Los Angeles, New York, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro. The Corporate Headquarters are in Los Angels. The sales offices are located in Chicago, London and Miami. The network structure is to handle a constant stream of multimedia traffic between offices with an average speed rate of 256 Kbps.

Generally multimedia files with the average file sizes of 50MB of combined data are dealt in the design centers. The data transfer between the workstations is required to be no more than 20 seconds. Against this background it is required that each of the workstations are to be connected by LAN so as to enable the computers of the workstations interconnected into a network with a view to enabling them communicate, exchange information and share the resources.

The data and same computer resources can be utilized by the multiple users in the network. The LAN in such case is required to adopt the Fast Ethernet technology that uses Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection or CSMA/CD protocol to control access network. Since the Fast Ethernet supports speed up to 100 Mbps and with Star wiring topology this technology will cater to the required file transfer rates. The LAN will be enriched with the Network Communication Devices like Repeater, Router, Hub, Switch etc.

The Intranet used by the company is to adopt Asynchronous Transfer Mode for improving the backbone and inter-LAN performances. (LAN Technologies) In order to enable the internet access to all the workstations it is required to connect them through the VSAT or Very Small Aperture Terminal technology that will enable receive/transmit terminals which are installed at dispersed sites and are connected to a central hub through the satellite with the help of small diameter antenna dishes.

This will provide a cost effective solution for the company in search of independent communication network linking large number of geographically dispersed sites and capable of catering to the needs in respect of Internet, voice, data, fax etc. over LAN being operated in Ku-band and C-band. (LAN Technologies) VPN services are to be used in the WAN connections that enable a user having an ISP connection through the Internet to access to the WAN. This allows access to the WAN resources over the Internet.

It entails secure access to HHSC resources applying encryption. This enhances the security by regulating the protocols that the workstations can access. It has regulatory access to the applications to which the employee is not authorized. (DIR Wide Area Network (WAN) Operations) Each of the TCP/IP network requires a unique IP address. An IP address is a 32-bit number that specifically identifies a network interface on a machine. The IP address constitutes some decimal digits. It is formatted in forms of four 8-bit fields demarcated by periods.

Such form of representations of IP address is sometimes referred to dotted decimal format. The IP address is dived into two categories -- the network part and the host part. The network part indicates the specified number assigned to the specific network. This also assists in identifying the class of the network assigned. The host part of the IP address specifically identifies each host on the network.

It is to be noted that the network part of the address remains the same for each host on the network however the host part of the IP address is required to be different. (IP Addressing Scheme).
