Role in IT as a Systems Analyst

I am currently working toward the role of being a Systems Analyst in an enterprise IT department. Having expertise in a wide variety of information systems technologies and processes, in addition to understanding how systems integrate with one another to create useful information is essential for my role. The most critical aspect of my role as a Systems Analyst is to concentrate on understanding and defining system strategies that contribute to the accomplishment of line-of-business objectives. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate how information systems are critical to the role of a Systems Analyst.

How Knowledge of Information Systems Helps System Analysts

The most critical skill set of any Systems Analyst is to translate the many factors inherent business strategies and line-of-business objectives into analytics, dashboards and reports that can make an immediate impact on the performance of a business. Insights into how the fundamentals of an IT system is designed, how the integration points that unify a system together are designed, and how enterprise-wide analytics applications can be used for delivering insight are all critical. The role of the systems analyst in defining entirely new business processes, defining entirely new applications, and looking at how to continually improve the performance of IT systems to better align with business needs. Ultimately the value of a systems analyst is reorienting the entire performance of a company around the customer's requirements as evidenced by significant shifts in how production, pricing, services and support are undergoing in many organizations today (Kroenke, 2013). The systems analyst needs to understand how IT systems are architected together, how programming languages are used for making these systems perform complex tasks, and also how they can create value for business units globally (Kroenke, 2013). These are particularly challenging aspects of the position, as it forces systems analysts to be equally conversant in the line-of-business requirements and how IT systems are architected today and how they need to change in the future.
