Ethical/Unethical Dilemma There has been the use and spread of information technologies in al areas and the business world is included. The use of electronic networks has paved way for great exchange of information though it has also brought with it several challenges. The rights and responsibilities of how the use of the information is undertaken have given rise to some ethical dilemma that affect businesses and other that affect people.

The use of information technologies has posed as great ethical dilemma in many businesses especially those that are not in a position to purchase the technologies since they have a big capital outlay that is required and the relevant expertise to deal with ethical dilemmas in the utilization of technologies. Some of the ethical dilemmas that businesses face in relation to the use of information technology include computer crimes. These crimes include theft, financial fraud and embezzlement.

These crimes affect businesses that rely on the internet for their operation; small businesses suffer from crime since they are unable to afford the implementation of security measures that will stop such crimes. Intellectual property is another ethical dilemma that is faced by businesses when using information systems. Intellectual property involves the creation of a business and it comprises of the name of the business, inventions, mages and the symbols used by the business. For a business to be successful, it largely depends on its assets.

However with the use of information technology there ahs been the tendency of businesses copying or imitating ideas from others which are not originally theirs and use them as their own.

Some small businesses may not have the gain of full benefits from their innovations since their innovations are unprotected and hence taken by big companies since they have the capability of quickly commercializing the service or products .to overcome this dilemma small businesses should try patenting their innovations so that they can prevent the imitation or copying of their products by other businesses. Use of information technology has also led to job replacement in many businesses.

This has led to unethical dilemmas by some companies who are forced to employ less man power and hence reducing their workforce. This has also led to other companies giving their employees more roles hence bringing about an increase in the work pressure to the employees. The forcing of employees out of their work or even giving them more tasks with no extra benefits tied to them is an unethical business practice.

Incase the employees have lost their jobs they should be compensated adequately but this is quite difficult for small businesses since they lack the sufficient resources and funds to compensate them. Software Piracy is another ethical dilemma that is posed by use of information systems in businesses. This especially comes in when it affects small scale producers of software's as they will incur big losses that may lead to the closure of the business.

There is also lack of incentive by small scale businesses to continue creating new software since they have constant fear of their work being pirated.
