¶ … Exciting Event in Life

Eastern Europe, the former communist block, Romania; it's a territory that is less likely to be taken into consideration as a travel destination. However, most people fail in choosing a proper travel destination because of their biased thinking. This is surely sad, given the fact that traveling is one of the best things one can do across their lives. When embarking on a trip, people expect to go through a series of interesting events, to meet fascinating individuals, and to see wonderful places. While this is likely to happen, these experiences are limited and there are little people who can tell a really captivating story about their last travel destination. Most will talk about how they saw wonderful landscapes, beautiful animals, and about how they had a wonderful and relaxing time doing this.

The traveling account in this paper is less probable to rank next to the top travel experiences told by people in general. I was looking through the internet to find a travel destination to visit in my next holiday and a friend of mine told me about Romania, claiming that it's actually cool for an underdeveloped country.

Most people cannot say that they heard about Romania, and those that do immediately relate to Dracula and gypsies. The latter was the first thing I thought about when I considered this country as a travel destination.

So, consequent to some time spent on the plane fantasizing about what I will be seeing in this country I finally arrived. Bucharest was less like the Transylvanian castles I thought about and the people were extremely extraverted (to my surprise). It was all new to me, but the fact that almost everyone knew English made it easier to fit in. Arts, clubbing, and nature are all present in this country, in spite of its rather small territory.

I immediately made some connections with a group of young people I met in a bar and they told me they were about to go to an art exhibition taking place on a closed street. I was reluctant to join them at first, but then I realized I had nothing to lose (they seemed ok). The exhibition was completely different from what I expected. DJs mixing on top of mattresses, loud electric/classic/pop music playing, and people having fun watching art shown in a variety of ways, each more fantastic than the other.

Romania was definitely not what I expected it to be! Matters got hotter as I mingled into the group and I was no longer a stranger. It seemed I was part of a bad comedy movie where a bunch of westerners are quickly assimilated in a third-world country culture and the locals are all friendly but they actually want to rob and kill you. Well, considering that I am still able to type these words, nothing bad happened to me and I really enjoyed my time in Romania. The people (who were mostly Caucasian) were extremely friendly and my guess is that they really like foreigners, regardless of the country they come from.
