Executive Protection

The Senior Executives of Massive Corporation

Of all the assets that our organization owns, employees happen to be the most valuable. It is therefore prudent to guarantee both their safety and welfare. This is more so the case for those executives considered most vulnerable by dint of the positions they hold. With that in mind, the relevance of an effective executive protection plan cannot be overstated.

Ordinarily, our top executives face an elevated personal risk based on the information they possess on the operations, future plans as well as trade secrets of the organization. This exposes them to the risk of kidnapping or outright assassination. In the past, top executives of other corporations have been used by criminals to aid robberies at their places of work based on their familiarity with the said organizations. It therefore follows that without a comprehensive, well-thought out as well as effective executive protection plan, our organization risks exposing its top executives to criminal cells bent on harming them for various reasons. An effective executive protection plan will aid in the aversion of threats to our top executives i.e. via preventive measures. Such a plan will also be critical when it comes to contingency planning. This is more so the case given the need for the organization to also take into consideration its post-incident preparedness. An effective executive protection plan will also clearly identify those executives in need of protection.

There are a wide range of potential measures that can be taken to protect our most vulnerable executives. In the words of Holder and Hawley (1997), "the best way to protect your principal is to keep him or her out of harm's way." One of the most important executive protection strategies the authors identify in this case is secrecy. When it comes to secrecy, it is important to note that there is a great need to keep the itinerary, appointments as well as travel arrangements of out top and most vulnerable executives secret. When it is not possible to keep such details entirely secret, only a few trusted individuals should have prior information on the same. This is important for purposes of securing such executives from pre-planned attacks.

Executive protection in this case will also call for the checking of the various locations our top executives visit either on official or personal business. These locations include but they are not limited to the office, hotel rooms and even the executive's home. There is a need to conduct an advance casing of these locations to minimize the executive's vulnerability. Other considerations in this case include but they are not in any way limited to proper vehicle and plane selection.

Protection may also be extended to the immediate families of our most vulnerable executives. This may call for the securing of an executive's residence. It is not uncommon for criminal elements to kidnap or threaten to harm family members so as to get the target executive to corporate.
