One thing from today’s reading that will make me a better minister is knowing that, as Thomas Aquinas teaches, “Faith is beyond reason” (p. 176). This is because people worry that they cannot come to God because they do not understand Him—but it is okay, for God is beyond our comprehension: we do not need to understand Him or His ways; it is enough to know that He is there, that He loves us, and that we should love Him in return.

The most interesting sentence (or point) in today’s reading was on page 258: “While ‘person’ will always be an inadequate term for the divine plurality, it is the most fitting word we have, since God relates to us in love and we relate to God in gratitude for creation and salvation.” I like how the sentence points out that our ways of understanding just don’t get us all the way there—but that is okay, because it’s not about getting all the way there; it is about showing gratitude back to our Creator.
