FBI National Security Operations

The National Security operation is a service that is provided within the FBI whose mission is helping protect the people, children, the community and businesses from the dangerous threats that face U.S.A from both international and local terrorists as well as spies that are located within the U.S. It realizes this mission through investigation of threats to national security, provision of information and analysis to other agencies that deal with law enforcement and coming up with capabilities of ensuring that the nation remains secure.

History of its formation

This national security Branch of the FBI came about in September 2005 as a response to a directive given by the president and recommendations by weapons of mass destruction commission.it brings together the resources and missions of the agencies counterterrorism, counterintelligence their weapons of mass destruction and the element of intelligence and is led by senior Bureau official (Fbi.gov,2014).

The components

The NSB have various components that include; the counterterrorism division that works with intelligence as well as law enforcement partners so as to provide comprehensive, centralized and an approach that is intelligence driven when it comes to dealing with domestic and international terrorism related issues. Counterintelligence Division whose duty is prevention and investigation of foreign intelligence activities conducted within the U.S. Directorate of intelligence which is a dedicated national intelligence workforce of the FBI that has clear responsibility and authority for all intelligence functions within the FBI. Weapons of mass destruction directorates the component that leads efforts that deny either state or non-state adversaries their access to any materials and technologies of WMD and detect and disrupt their use as well as respond to any threats or incidences related to WMD. Terrorist screening center comprises of the approach by the government towards screening of terrorists through the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive watch list of the suspected terrorists who are known and availing this list to local, federal and state screeners. High value detainee interrogation group is the final component of the NSB which is an interagency bond that is staffed wit members of different IC agencies whose mission is gathering and application of the best resources of the nation when it comes to the gathering of intelligence from key suspects of terrorism so as to mitigate terrorist attacks against the U.S. And its allies (Fbi.gov, 2014).

How it executes its operations

The combination of this national security workforce of the FBI and the mission to be under a single leadership reinforces to the national intelligence efforts art the same time allowing the leveraging of resources from the intelligence community, state, federal, local, tribal and foreign partners. NSB executes FBI's responsibilities as being the leader in intelligence and agency for law enforcement within the nation in order to detect, disrupt and eventually disrupt any security threats within the nation while at the same time maintaining the goal of the Bureau which is preservation of the civil liberties, branches that collect and carry out analysis of intelligence which pertains to any threats to the national security. They relay this information to the public, private, state, federal, local as well as the tribal partners. The daily successes of NSB come about through addressing any national security threats that might come up (Fbi.gov, 2014).
