Future Technological and Human Dimension Aspects of Emergency Management

While analyzing the readings it is evident that what the researchers report does hold merit. As time goes on the role of the manager becomes more technical and exact. It is important to realize that though new technologies are born every day, there are responsibilities that come with these newfound resources. With the ideas of an easier more efficient life come the consequences of the newfound ease, therefore it is important to prepare and acknowledge what may happen because of new technologies and resources. The researchers further discus on p.694 how important it is for the emergency manager to assure that these new found technologies are a source of positive advancement and not a future means of destruction and chaos. (Stanley & Waugh, 2001)

This relates to Emergency Management directly. Without preparation and understanding, no amount of technology can help. It is important in the area of management to recognize not only the strengths in a given situation, but also the weaknesses. This allows one to view the situation from 360 degrees. When that occurs it is less likely for a situation to come up that cannot be handled or anticipated. It is also evident through the reading to realize the responsibility that comes with new technology and sharing those resources with others. The reading discusses how resources that are seen as trivial to one person can be used along with personal knowledge of another to be quite destructive. (Stanley & Waugh, 2001, p.694)
