¶ … General Electric Leadership Program. Specifically it will discuss the program and why it is successful. General Electric has an extensive leadership program that prepares new college graduates for leadership roles in the company. It is one of the most well respected leadership training programs because it creates excellent leaders ready to take on management roles throughout GE's many different divisions. GE's Leadership Program is successful for several compelling reasons.

It is geared to "global management," because GE is a global company, and doing business in different countries and cultures can be very different and challenging. However, it is a three-step process that helps develop managers in different areas of expertise, such as finance or human resources, and it develops managers at different levels to accomplish different things, such as section leaders and middle managers, as well as executives and upper management.

The company does not train people to be managers, it trains people to be leaders, and there is a great difference between the two. Leaders inspire others to do their best and achieve the company's goals, while managers simply manage those around them. There is a huge difference between the two methods of training, and GE seems to recognize this in their training. They turn ordinary or extraordinary people into great leaders, and that spreads throughout the company, creating a better working environment and more possibilities for excellence.

Another reason GE's management programs work is because they are ongoing and often lengthy. They do not consist of a few weeks of intense training, they often last for several years, and go through many different phases of instruction. These programs are geared to long-term results, rather than short-term intensity, and they give the participants time to put their training to use and move from location to location.

As one of the interviewees says, they get hands on experience, and they believe that will help them understand the overall operations of the company, making them a much more well rounded manager. GE's program is unique because it sends trainees to several different sites, and they work in real time jobs, while studying leadership models too. They rotate into different jobs and roles, and they experience different locations and areas. This helps young leaders in many ways.

They get to see different operations, discover what they are most interested in, what they are best at, and what they enjoy. The interviewees say that the program is very challenging and dynamic, and that they have to work in many different environments, and that they learn a lot from the situations and working with the other leaders. They also say it is very hands on and that they deal with numerous situations and are mentored by other leaders. The training program also benefits GE in many ways.

It creates excellent managers who are prepared for just about any situation they could encounter in their careers with the company. The program teaches adaptability, something good leaders need, and it helps create managers that can move within GE's many different divisions very seamlessly. That gives GE much more options and benefits from their.
