¶ … Graphic Design For three years, I have studied in West Valley College with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.43. Prior to studying in the United States, I served under the Korean Military Service Program for two years and two months. After accomplishing the required period of service, I decided to go to the United States to have the opportunity of studying in the college level.

As a military service member, I was interested in computer operations; thus, it came naturally that my chosen field of study when I was accepted in West Valley is to take up Computer Science. Over the three years that I have studied in West Valley, I was able to hone my skills in various important computer operations that deal in both the aesthetic (physical appearance and features) and functional elements.

As I familiarize myself with computer studies, I became more interested in one particular domain of computer studies -- that is, computer graphics design. I then realized that I could pursue my studies in computer studies without compromising one particular field, which I am more interested, familiar, and experienced with, which is in graphic design. Thus, I am now planning to accomplish this goal by entering a university that I know will help me achieve a degree in graphic design -- the University of XXXX.

My decision to apply for a bachelor's degree in graphic design at the University of XXXX is based on my cumulative experience as a military service member, computer science student, and artist. The roles I have assumed throughout the years have helped developed in me certain qualities that enables me to aspire and know that I can achieve my plan to take up graphic design in University of XXXX.

My experience as a military service member developed in me a sense of discipline in everything I do, especially when accomplishing tasks that need to be done within a certain period.

Furthermore, I can work under pressure, which I perceive to be an important quality that comes with graphic designing, an activity that does not only demand knowledge in creatively coming up with design concepts, but also the focus of the graphic design artist, since most graphic designs are conceptualized and produced effectively when the artist is at his/her best 'artistic state.' Combining both creativity and focus in completing a task is a quality that I am proud to say I possess, specifically because I have been exposed to situations that require me to deliver on a particular assignment based on my creativity and focus.

As a computer science student in West Valley, I became familiar with the technical rudimentary that are essential to my field of study. I become more 'scientific' in my approach to computer operations, where before I only used my experience as my guide in completing computer tasks. More importantly, I learned how to utilize and apply programming languages in almost all my activities as an artist.

Furthermore, I also learned the value of using the computer not only technically, but also its importance in helping people express themselves through computer communication. For me, computers are effective media that allows people to showcase and inform people about their works, which is an essential opportunity for an artist (like me), where I can use the computer to enhance and manipulate creatively my artworks and highlight these artworks in the Internet for other art enthusiasts as well.

As an artist, I have participated actively in joining organizations in order to expose myself with the important developments about artworks using the computer media. As a member of the art gallery, I submit my artworks to the art gallery during meetings (held once every two weeks), where we members discuss and share our ideas about each member's work, either for improvement or help in the conceptualization process.

Apart from my affiliated organization, I also have a hobby in logo making, where my friends make up any kind of logo as part of our collection. These logos are also artworks aided by computer graphics, enhancing and manipulating our works according to our style, technique, and concept. In essence, my experiences as a military service member, computer science student, and artist have helped me fuse two important aspects that are essential requirements in graphic design: knowledge and creativity (artistic skill).

My knowledge in the technical aspects in computer helps me convert and create artworks in computer media form, which is a very lucrative activity nowadays. My artistic skills and creativity, on the other hand, keeps me in touch to focus not only the technicalities of creating artworks via the computer media, but it also taps my 'inner self,' my subjective interpretation of my artwork. Thus, graphic design is appropriate for my personality, because I am able to combine and balance the technical and creative aspects needed in the course.

For me, my extensive knowledge in computer operations and programming and as an artist (logo-maker and art gallery member) is an advantage that will help me become competent as a graphic design student in the University of XXXX. Since I have.
