Abstract

WAS GREECE THE 'FIRST†WESTERN CIVILIZATION Some have argued, that Western Civilization, in the sense that it saw itself as different from "the East" truly began with the Greeks. Herodotus himself contrasted the West as representing freedom, and the East as representing oppression. What do you think provide reasons Would you agree with this argument (that Western Civilization truly began with the Greeks)? Why or why not? Please give examples to support your ideas. You should post more than once-- so feel free to support or argue against other posts politely 3. BACKGROUND Imagine that we are in classical Greece, attendees of a great banquet held in Olympia, after a day of watching the games. The host has invited people from all different parts of Greece to take part-- Athenians, Spartans, Thebens, Cretens, etc have all attended (you may choose which city state you are from). After the meal is concluded, some of the guests (us) have stayed behind to engage in philosophical discussion. You are free to draw on Plato, Aristotle, or Socrates, or other classical Greek philosophy in support of your arguments (any good Greek intellectual would know their works by heart, but you can use the internet to do your own research).

Greek History World Civilizations

What made the Greek civilization so great? What made the Greeks so great?

Greeks are the most famous and advance people around the world. There are so many areas and variety of things that makes this country and nation so rich and lively. The Greeks has a great history due to having great philosophers, socialist, wars, kings, food, outfits, culture, and great thinkers.

The history of Greek civilization is very rich and deep, it can be dated back to 300 B.C. The nation is entirely long and vast.

It was the first civilization in Europe. This part of the world was developed near the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. It is also considered as the birthplace of democracy as per several popular scholars, nations and authors of the world in the history.

The Greek is the first democratic country over the earth. The idea of democracy was implemented in a simple way. Athens was the first city ruled under democratic policies and laws. Almost 500 people were selected from the population of 30,000 citizens for the purpose of controlling and running the city and its operations on a small amount of wages and salary every month. They were allowed to take decision, passed laws for the purpose of serving the jury and people by establishing parliament.

2. WAS GREECE THE FIRST WESTERN CIVILIZATION

Ancient Greek was the first civilization and democracy all over the world. The history of Greek civilization is long back to 4000 years back over the earth. Greeks developed, introduced and established several institutions and departments so nicely in the fields of culture, art, philosophy, architecture, democracy and Olympic Games.

Due to these levels of developments and establishments, it can be observed that this civilization is long and old. Today, many philosophers, historians also conclude that several nations and countries are following the method of developments which are introduced by Greeks.

The Greeks is the first civilization around the globe because they hold the first penal and civil law code to Draco. The famous poet as well as statesman also worked in Athens on the designation of Draco or as a Draco named Solon. He was selected as a first Archon in the 594 B.C. Today, Archon is named as prime minister of the country. The main difference between prime minister and Archon was the duration of Archon. He was selected on annual basis for performing functions such as army control, priest services, executive and judicial controls etc. Cleisthenes introduced profound reforms in 510 B.C; this significance step pushed and realized the existence of democracy as a system of government first time in the world.

3. BACKGROUND

I would like to feel the charm of that time and would also like to go in that era for the purpose of asking so many questions from great philosopher and sociologist. I would like to talk with Socrates because he is my favorite philosophers for so many reasons and things. After reading the history of Socrates and the way he was died is tremendous and worth mentioning.

Is man by nature, altruistic and honest?

Socrates: Man is not at all honest by nature according to Socrates but it is the requirements of a true man. If a man cannot be true and honest with his duties and responsibilities then he cannot be loyal to his own personalities. A Man is a not a man without having this necessary quality. He has the right to speak anything he wants to speak according to the democracy and people have the right to follow that person who speaks about the welfare of majority of people.

Is Democracy the best form of government?

Socrates: From all the sides and angles, democracy is the best policy and system for running a country so nicely and efficiently. In this system, an element of accountability is involved very strictly and honestly and clear rules and decisions in case of someone are proved liable for any bad activity.

If there is something going wrong, then this systems support to the innocent but not cruel people. In fact, all the people are well and happy because of getting all their rights. In case, anybody has no right to ask about bad activity from some rich and high profile authority then there is no chance of success and happiness in that society so I want to be the first revolutionary and inventory of democracy in our town.

Is the world around us "real" or are we all just "shadows" in some great cosmic dream?
