Of the half that are men, ironically enough, each of them has a one in one thousand chance of developing breast cancer themselves. Of the men who will not develop it, they all have a mother, or perhaps sisters, aunts, cousins, grandmothers, or girlfriends that may be affected. That's 300,000 mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, girlfriends, grandmothers, neighbors, teachers, waitresses, health care professionals, police officers, and college students. In addition to that, close to 40,000 women can be expected to die in 2011 from breast cancer. And although this statistic is quite disturbing, there is some good news; death rates have been steadily decreasing over the past 20 years.
