When the school's annual alchemy fair was staged, Venus Oz was determined to win. "I just know that Perdita pull some dirty, underhanded scheme, and coast upon the reputation of her illustrious mother," mused Oz. The alchemy fairs were held in honor of the great wizardly traditions of the science of turning lead into gold. Students were given the task of safely turning one substance into another in a spectacular fashion. Past winners had been students who had turned Quidditch bats into dragons that could eat quaffles, bludgers, and snitches and then spit them out into many multiples of themselves. Others had turned hamsters into living representations of the former kings and queens of England and back again. Hours of work was necessary to ensure that the experiment could be performed successfully for the teachers, of course, but hours of work was not something at which Perdita excelled. Venus lay in bed at night. "I just know that she'll cast some spell to enchant the judges to make them think that turning rubber into an eraser is something clever by giving them her hypnotic chocolates," groused Venus. "I need to think up an idea..." And then...

...

Oz, can you demonstrate your feat alchemy" said the judge, a man with a thick Glasgow accent. He looked suspicious and brushed the chocolates he had just eaten from his kilt with a huff, as there was nothing at Venus' exhibit area other than a blank table and wand. Out of the corner of her eye, Venus could see Perdita proudly smiling at her hypnotic chocolates that would make the judges do whatever she desired. Venus nodded and suddenly there was a puff of smoke and a gasp coming from Perdita's area. "Sir, I have accomplished the impossible -- I have turned a lazy student into an honest student who cannot tell a lie." Perdita, looking stricken saw her chocolates melt and her talking Cliff Notes turning into smoke in her bag. "Don't worry, it is only temporary, and will reverse itself in an hour," said Venus triumphantly, not caring whether she won or lost the competition, for once in her life. "Any tools used for dishonest purposes in this room will implode, but for only for an hour, so things will be safe for liars once again by noon. Until then, however, you best stash your most treasured belongings outside."

Chocolate One of the most seductive and pleasurable foods, enjoyed everywhere in the world, is chocolate. Chocolate is a slightly psychoactive substance but it has some health benefits when consumed in its purest forms and in moderation. Much of what is sold as chocolate today, such as the candy bars in the check-out aisles in grocery stores, barely approximates the richer varieties of the confection like the brands produced in Europe.

Symbolism, Advertising and Chocolate By far, the most overused symbolism to sell chocolate is sex. Chocolate is sexy and women eating chocolate are even sexier. Beyond sex, chocolate is synonymous with fun, love, and even patriotism. Let us consider some of the most obvious advertising schemes. What they are really asking the consumer to buy? An old but very common image is found in the Hershey Company's advertising for its chocolate bar.
