Healthcare Reform in America

In a news article written for Yahoo News entitled "Obama makes moral case for health reform" written on August 20, 2009, writer Stephen Collinson presents Obama's moral convictions on his proposed healthcare reform policies.

Collinson opened his article with Obama's address before an estimated 140,000 people. This even was sponsored by 30 progressive religious denominations. In line with the tone of this event, Obama attempted to disquiet opposition by arguing that the debate goes way beyond politics -- it is a moral conviction which every human being shares. Obama expounds on this as he maintained than no one person in American should experience financial ruin simply because they cannot healthcare coverage. In order to further disquiet his opposition, Obama also argued that claims against his healthcare reform plans (i.e. these would result to higher rates of abortion, issuing healthcare even to immigrants, and the ration of end-of-life care) were simply "fabrications" which discourages people from Obama's fulfillment of what he deemed as ethical and moral obligations. He further goes on to say that, "I am my brother's keeper and I am my sister's keeper" to bolster this point.
