Developing novel hypotheses for unexplored areas in scientific research

Over the last several years, a variety of health care organizations have been dealing with a number of different issues. Part of the reason for this, is because of a shift in the kinds of care that is being provided. Two of the most notable include: the use / impact of prescriptions drugs on the population and how headaches are diagnosed. This is important, because many of these activities are having a direct influence on the general population. To fully understand what is taking place requires: examining a hypothesis that is being proposed, the demographics of the study, the methodology, the possibilities of bias and how the hypothesis could help to develop / target the different segments. Once this occurs, it will provide the greatest insights as to: the underlying challenges that are facing the industry and its potential impact.

What is the hypothesis? What study design will be used to test the hypothesis?

The increasing utilization of delivering prescriptions drugs is creating a shift, in the way many health professionals are practicing medicine. This is because of the changes in: care and among medical practitioners. At which point, demand and costs will increase. This is problematic, because if left unchecked it could lead to a major shift in the way many health care solutions are being delivered. Once this occurs, it will have a dramatic impact on the personal lives of a number of individuals. As, they will see their standards of living begin to decline, due to the fact that they are spending more on prescription drugs. Over the course of time, this will create vast disparities in society (with many effectively being priced out of the system). This will cause the quality of care to consistently decline. (Findlay, 2001, 90 -- 119) (McLeod, 2003, pp. 895 -- 908) The study design that we will be using for testing the hypothesis is: quantitative research. This is when you are surveying samples of the population, to determine the effect that it is having on participants. During the course of project, this will provide real world information that will be used to support or refute the hypothesis that was presented. What population will serve as the participants? How will the participants be recruited? What will be the inclusion/exclusion criteria for inclusion/exclusion from the study?

The general population will serve as the participants. We will be examining various aspects of the populace, which will mirror the demographics within society itself. The participants will be recruited through: visiting different health care clinics, hospitals, drug companies and nonprofit organizations. The exclusion / inclusion criteria will be those patients, who are taking one prescription drugs per day. (Findlay, 2001, 90 -- 119) (McLeod, 2003, pp. 895 -- 908)

What will be the methodology used to test the hypothesis?

The methodology that we will be using to test they hypothesis will be statistical examination. This is when you are: creating a control group and an independent variable to determine if the results from our study are similar to others. (Findlay, 2001, 90 -- 119) (McLeod, 2003, pp. 895 -- 908)

What is the possibility of bias entering the study? If the study is susceptible to bias, state and explain the type of bias that may enter the study and what steps can be incorporated to minimize the entry of bias.

The possibility for bias in the study is low. The reason why, is because researchers will have limited access to the patients they are seeing (through: the use of anonymous surveys). This will dramatically reduce the possibilities of bias existing. (Findlay, 2001, 90 -- 119) (McLeod, 2003, pp. 895 -- 908)

Based on your hypothesis/proposal, how will the proposed generated results help to develop an effective health policy for the target population of your chosen topic?

The proposal will help to develop an effective health policy. This is accomplished by: providing specific insights about how the increasing utilization of various prescription drugs is contributing to rising health care costs. (Findlay, 2001, 90 -- 119) (McLeod, 2003, pp. 895 -- 908)

The number of people suffering from different migraine headaches will have an effect on: productivity and quality of life for many individuals. Over the course of time, this will have an impact on: costs and the underlying amounts of happiness for most people. The study design method that will be utilized is: quantitative research. What population will serve as the participants? How will the participants be recruited? What will be the inclusion/exclusion criteria for inclusion/exclusion from the study?

The general population will serve as participants with us: mirroring similar demographics in society. Participants will be recruited at: health care clinics and hospitals. The inclusion / exclusion criteria will be those people who are suffering from at least one migraine headache per month. (Kryst, 2005, pp. 341- 350)
