How effectively solve problem; misuse health care dollars? How cost containment affected evolution delivery system health care U. The effects of healthy behavior on the healthcare system More than half of the money allocated for healthcare is misused. There are inappropriate procedures that doctors or physicians request from the patients in order to provide a correct diagnosis Berwick & Hackbarth, 2012. These procedures lead to the increase of health care costs and they are avoidable. Healthcare administration costs are exorbitant and account for 30% of the total bill given to a patient. The administration costs are included in the patient's final bill, and they have no option but to pay. Hospital administration costs do not add value to the patient's health, but proper running of the hospital is vital.

This does reduce the cost of healthcare, but it is negatively affecting the hospitals.

Cost containment has necessitated and promoted home-based care in order to deliver the same care for the patient. Home-based care reduces the costs incurred as the patient can recuperate at home and not incur the cost of a hospital bed. Having relatives around to provide for the necessary care benefits the patient and overall reduces their healthcare costs. Promotion of prevention initiatives has assisted in cost containment. Individuals are more informed and are encouraged to make healthy choices, which lead in reduced health care costs.

According to Satya-Murti (2003) around 40% of illness is associated with lifestyle and behavior choices. Educating individuals to change their lifestyles and having early detection of illness results in healthcare cost savings. If a patient is diagnosed early and their illness treated while it is still in its initial stage. The patient does not have to incur huge medical bills. The key to combating preventable deaths is education and creating awareness amongst the population.

Educating people on the effects of their habits like smoking or consuming alcohol could assist in reducing the number of deaths associated with these vices. Providing classes to individuals on how to maintain healthy lifestyles will assist in promoting and preventing the factors that contribute to the preventable deaths. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths Danaei et al., 2009. Having abstinence classes for the smokers is vital to reducing and influencing them to quit smoking.
