Sugar and fats
New probes have not been able to establish a persuasive connection between heart disease and saturated fats. To add on to that, other long-standing beliefs against fats have been dealt away with. There is a strong proof that low fat diets hardly work and taking the required quantity of fat aids in weight loss as well as helping the heart (Mosley para 3). It asserted that using fat in place of sucrose led to a noticeable improvement in the levels of serum triglyceride for individuals who are healthy, replacing starch with sucrose resulted to a huge improvement in the levels of serum triglyceride for individuals suffering from hypertriglyceridemia, and using leguminous vegetables in place of sucrose led to a big improvement in the levels of serum cholesterol for healthy individuals.
Reports indicate that using starch in place of sucrose led to a slight improvement in the levels of serum cholesterol for healthy individuals. It further stated that decreasing dietary cholesterol and replacing polyunsaturated fat with saturated fats resulted to an improvement in levels of serum cholesterol for healthy people (Kealms, Schmidt & Glantz 1682).
Hydrogenation, which is a process for changing vegetable oil into margarine entails gas pumped through oil at extreme temperatures to produce trans fats. These can be termed as the Darth Vader of the world of fat. According to Mosley (2007), trans fats damage your heart more compared to saturated fats.
A number of industries are receiving increased scans concerning their influence on sponsorship of research on risks and benefits of their products. The public health community has been provided with an understanding of the tactics, motives, strategies and data meant to secure companies from prosecution and control through accessing some of their documents which are not designed for public consumption.
According to Kealms, Schmidt & Glantz, (1682) investigations done using these documents are able to give information to the healthy community about ways to go against any industry’s plans to hide information concerning serious effects of fats and sugar.
