High Frequency Active Auroral Research

¶ … High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program otherwise known as HAARP is a project that culminates in a device array that bounces large amounts of electrical energy into the ionosphere to study its behavior and effects. There is significant controversy regarding the research station which is located in a very remote area of Alaska. The site conducts continual monitoring of the ionosphere to better understand how it works under different conditions and potentially to help develop communication systems that will improve on those that exist today. (HARRP Website) According to the official website the site only conducts four to six research operations per year that produce the energy ionosphere bounce, that is described as lasting from 1-4 weeks depending on conditions and the intention of the scientific research being conducted. The rest of the time only the observation instruments are in use. The site is removed from the local electrical grid when the antenna array is in the test phase. From reading the materials on the official HARRP website one comes to the rapid conclusion that the research program is actively innocuous and makes every effort to reduce any real or potential risk of interference with traditional communication arrays or any other affective danger. (HARRP Website) Yet, it is clear from further assessment that there is a near constant controversial conspiracy theory(s) with regard to HARRP. My argument is that no matter intent it is universally unethical to accept scientific or any other technological advance that breaks any or all of the following ideals: 1- it's against all religions to kill innocent people 2- killing is wrong 3- using the forces of nature for destruction is unethical.

Countless individuals believe that the HARRP array is a fundamentally secretive program that has far more sinister ramifications, on many levels. Some of those levels include the potential for weather manipulation, the potential for earthquake generation and a whole host of other possible effects that could potentially be used against humanity. Some also claim that the site is a secret military operation, while it is plainly clear that the program is supported by a consortium of university and other educational research interests, rather than the military and that nothing the site does is confidential or top secret in any way. HARRP is claimed, by some to be a device that basically bounces very large amounts of energy into the atmosphere to open a brief window which then allows intense ionospheric winds to return to the surface of the earth under the temporary hole in the atmosphere. * HAARP is a giant death ray, based on a design contained in the notes of inventor Nikola Tesla, seized by the FBI after his death. This is a very popular theory, probably because so much of it is actually true. Tesla claimed to have developed a death ray with a very similar configuration to HAARP's actual configuration, and the seizure of his scientific papers is a matter of public record.

* HAARP is a weather-control machine. There's a certain logic to this one as well. If a butterfly's wings beating in Tibet can cause el Nino, then a gigawatt of electromagnetic radiation ought to be good for something.

* HAARP is an earthquake machine. Also based on a bunch of weird stuff Tesla discovered. Somewhat offset by the fact the HAARP array is clearly pointed at the sky.

* HAARP is a doomsday machine ripping a hole in the earth's atmosphere. Colorful, but scienfitically questionable. How do you rip a hole in air?

* HAARP has something to do with UFOs. Either signalling them, blasting them from the skies, or feeding babies to them.

Though an anonymous blogger is hardly likely to be considered a credible source the reality is that the full implications of this research device are unknown and real scientists who he caricatures have real scientific knowledge that allows them to explore credible possibilities of negative outcomes of the work of HARRP. The potential effects of this massive influx of proposed ionospheric wind, supposedly produced by the "real" device are many, those that are simply speculative include: the potential to deforest entire tracks of land, interfere with communication, alter the behavior of humans and even cause earthquakes.
