Personal Statement for Leadership Position

Beginning in 2007, with the decision to join then-Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign as an earnest volunteer, my personal commitment to political activism has continued to improve my leadership and managerial skill set. While my journey through America's political system was rooted in idealism at the onset, and became predictably pragmatic as I learned the intricacies of modern campaigning at the highest level, throughout those five years I discovered a genuine passion for motivating others to achieve organizational goals. As a __(insert your official title/position here)__, I was charged with the task of assisting in the overall management of the local Democratic campaign headquarters, working to organize the efforts of fellow volunteers to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness. The fact that I was slightly older than many of my peers at the campaign office may have contributed to my natural inclination to assume a leadership role, but within weeks of taking my position I realized that my contributions could be most advantageous in a managerial capacity. Based on the success I enjoyed while working for the Obama campaign -- both on the organizational level as a member of the winning ticket, and personally as my confidence improved by leaps and bounds -- my decision to pursue an advanced degree from ____(insert name of your college here)__ has been made with full conviction and enthusiasm.
